Olympic Trials Qualifier Isaac Basten Joins B.A.A. High Performance Team

NCAA All-American from Drake University is Boston Bound

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that Isaac Basten has joined the B.A.A. High Performance Team. Basten, a 2024 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 1500m and 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships runner-up in the mile, joins the professional Boston-based team coach by Mark Carroll.

“I am extremely grateful to be joining a prestigious organization in the B.A.A.,” said Basten. “I’m very passionate about taking my running to the next level, and I trust no one more than Coach Carroll and this awesome squad to help get me there. I’ve lost a couple of close battles throughout my career, and I’m ready to turn those into wins.”

A native of Buffalo, Minnesota, Basten comes to Boston after a decorated career at Drake University. For the Bulldogs, Basten was a multiple-time Missouri Valley Conference champion on the track and in cross country. He competed at the NCAA Championships seven times on the track between indoor and outdoors, racing to career best finishes of second indoors (mile, 2023) and fifth outdoors (1500m, 2023).

“I have followed Isaac’s career from his high school days through his fantastic career at Drake University with Coach Jay Koloseus,” said Mark Carroll, B.A.A. High Performance Team head coach and two-time Olympian for Ireland. “Over the last few years Isaac established himself as one of the most exciting 1500m/mile prospects in the NCAA with his finishing speed and fast finishes. Isaac has set big goals for the future, and we are excited to guide the next professional phase of his career here at the B.A.A.”

This year, Basten has clocked lifetime bests in the mile (3:53.54, indoors) and 800m (1:46.89, outdoors). He won the Missouri Valley Conference 800m title in May and earned a spot on the starting line for this year’s Olympic Trials 1500m in Eugene, Oregon, ultimately placing 13th in his heat.

The B.A.A.’s High Performance team supports runners on their way towards making international teams, with the goal of competing at the highest level: the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, and Abbott World Marathon Majors. The B.A.A. is sponsored by adidas, which provides comprehensive support for the organization’s High Performance team, running club, and mass-participatory events.
