BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that NCAA All-Americans Jenna Magness, Bethany Hasz, and Megan Hasz have joined the B.A.A. High Performance Team. All three athletes will be coached by B.A.A. High Performance Coach Mark Carroll and will train in Boston. The B.A.A.’s High Performance Team is sponsored by adidas.
“The B.A.A. welcomes collegiate standouts Jenna Magness, Bethany Hasz, and Megan Hasz to the High Performance Team, B.A.A. Running Club and the New England running community,” said Coach Carroll, a two-time Olympian for Ireland. “Jenna, Bethany, and Megan showcased their talents in cross-country and on the track with school records, conference titles and NCAA All-American Performances. We are excited for the next phase of their journey as they begin their professional careers here in Boston.”
Magness joins the B.A.A. after a decorated career at Michigan State University, where she earned six NCAA All-America honors, numerous All-B1G Ten accolades and was named USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year for both indoor track and cross country. This year she placed third at the 2022 NCAA Track & Field Championships 10,000m (running a lifetime best 32:59.96), and successfully defended both B1G Ten 5,000m conference titles indoors and outdoors. She also won the B1G Ten 10,000m conference title in May, and finished sixth at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships 5,000m. Magness is a Michigan State school record holder (5,000m, indoors and out), a five-time B1G Ten Champion and a two-time George Alderton Female Athlete of the Year at MSU.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Boston Athletic Association and being surrounded by such a high performing group of athletes. I’m looking forward to being coached by Mark Carroll and seeing myself grow as a runner,” said Magness. “I’m grateful for the support from adidas and the B.A.A. for the opportunity to chase my dreams and accomplish my goals in the coming years.”
Sisters Bethany and Megan Hasz both come to the B.A.A. after graduating from the University of Minnesota. As a Golden Gopher, Bethany Hasz set multiple school records and earned All-American honors in both cross country (twice) and track and field (four times). This past year, Hasz was named NCAA All-American, USTFCCCA All-Region, First Team All-B1G Ten, and B1G Ten Athlete of the Year. She posted the fastest 6K cross country time in Gophers’ history (19:36.4) at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships to finish seventh, improving one spot from her eighth-place finish at the pandemic-delayed 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championships. In 2021, she was runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships 5,000m, and followed that up with a third-place showing at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships 5,000m. She was a three-time B1G Ten conference champion on the track.
“I am so excited to join the Boston Athletic Association as the next step in my running journey,” said Bethany Hasz. “I’m very fortunate to be able to pursue something I’m so passionate about as a career. I couldn’t have gotten here without all of the support from my family, friends, coaches, and teammates. I look forward to working with Coach Carroll and the rest of the B.A.A.”
Megan Hasz, like her sister, also has earned NCAA All-American, USTFCCCA All-Region, First Team All-B1G Ten, and Academic All-B1G Ten honors. In her most recent cross country season with Minnesota, Hasz won the individual title at the B1G Ten Championships with a time of 20:34.5, and earned her fourth career USTFCCCA All-Region designation. At the NCAA Cross Country Championships, she recorded the second-fastest 6K time in program history of 19:48.9 (23rd place). Megan finished third at both the indoor and outdoor B1G Ten Championship 5,000m races this year.
“I am really looking forward to starting my professional running career with the Boston Athletic Association. The support of my friends, family, coaches, and teammates have not only made this possible but made it a super fun journey,” said Megan Hasz. “Having the opportunity to continue my training with this group is something I’m extremely grateful for. I’m excited to see what comes next working with Coach Carroll and the rest of the B.A.A.”
“We look forward to supporting all three women as they pursue their running goals and compete alongside teammates Erika Kemp, Annie Rodenfels and Abbey Wheeler. Our High Performance Team is immediately bolstered by the addition of these extremely talented women,” added Coach Carroll.
The B.A.A.’s High Performance team supports American runners on their way towards making international teams, with the goal of competing at the highest level: the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, and Abbott World Marathon Majors. The B.A.A. is sponsored by adidas, which provides comprehensive support for the organization’s High Performance team, running club, and mass-participatory events.
