Global e-commerce brand to help enhance participants’ experience surrounding the Boston Marathon
The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced Amazon as the official retailer of the Boston Marathon.
Known around the globe for their customer-first mentality, Amazon will collaborate with the B.A.A. to elevate the Boston Marathon experience for participants, spectators, visitors, and fans leading up to Patriots’ Day and the 124th running of the Boston Marathon on April 20, 2020.
“We are delighted to welcome such a global and technologically progressive company as Amazon into the Boston Marathon family,” said Tom Grilk, Chief Executive Officer of the B.A.A. “Together, the B.A.A. and Amazon will work as one to expand the Boston Marathon experience far beyond race day, with a primary focus on training essentials and Boston Marathon Fan Fest.”
Amazon will be involved in the buildup to the 2020 Boston Marathon in numerous ways. To help athletes prepare for April’s race, Amazon will serve as the presenting sponsor of the Boston Marathon’s Training Clinic Series and accompanying Tips and Tricks Videos, which appear across the B.A.A.’s social media platforms.
Developed by Team B.A.A. athletes, coaches, and staff, both video series will cover topics pertinent to the Boston Marathon including winter training and injury prevention. The Training Clinic Series will culminate with a live, interactive event at Boston Marathon Fan Fest, presented by Amazon.
To support all athletes needs in the buildup to race day, a unique Boston Marathon shop webpage will also be highlighted on Amazon.com featuring products referenced in the video series, official Boston Marathon-sponsored products, and other running and Boston Marathon-related items.
Amazon will also serve as the presenting sponsor of Boston Marathon Fan Fest, a three-day festival held in Copley Square from Friday, April 17 through Sunday, April 19. Amazon will host interactive experiences within Fan Fest that include a video board displaying user-generated posts leading up to race day. At Boston Marathon Fan Fest, presented by Amazon, individuals can submit messages for participants that will display near the finish during the marathon. Fan Fest will also feature live music and athlete meet-and-greets on race weekend.
In addition, Amazon will be the presenting sponsor of the Boston Marathon Digital Number Pick-Up Pass, which all 31,500 participants must present at the Boston Marathon Expo. The Boston Marathon Digital Number Pick-Up Pass helps athletes seamlessly receive their bib numbers before exploring the Boston Marathon Expo.
The 124th Boston Marathon will be held on April 20, 2020, Patriots’ Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A total of 31,500 participants will compete from Hopkinton to Boston, representing all 50 U.S. states and more than 100 nations around the globe. The Boston Marathon is the oldest annual marathon in the world, and for the 35th year is principally sponsored by John Hancock.
